Wind Engineering and Fluids Laboratory (WEFL) at Colorado State University

Determination and mitigation of wind effects on buildings and structures as well as dispersion of pollutants, using boundary-layer wind tunnels, are the main thrust areas of research and service activities at our laboratory.   The WEFL, formerly the Fluid Dynamics and Diffusion Laboratory, has been the center of excellence for fundamental and applied research in wind engineering and fluid dynamics, for over 40 years. It is one of the international laboratories where the foundations of wind engineering were established.  The core of the WEFL are three large boundary-layer wind tunnels.  Research is carried out in cooperation with faculty and students from various departments at Colorado State University and other institutions in the U.S. and abroad.  Staff of the WEFL also are involved in wind engineering service.  Facilities and technical personnel are available to researchers and practitioners not affiliated with the WEFL.
