Aerodynamic optimization of roofing systems

One of recent studies performed at WEFL involved retrofit roofing systems consisting of photovoltaic units attached to interlocking light-weight concrete pavers.  A sample model of a system comprising of 72 unit is shown above, on the left.  To achieve dynamic similitude for the wind-tunnel testing, each model unit was fabricated as a composite consisting of elements made of pine and balsa wood, and translucent thin plastic top pieces modeling photovoltaic panels, as is  illustrated on the right.
